The Doors’ ‘Break On Through (To the Other Side)’ and The Brady Bunch have inspired a new split-screen clip for Melbourne’s Sand Pebbles.

Directed by Aaron Carroll, with visuals by Adam White, the clip is for ‘Occupied Europe [Take Me Across The Water]’, the first single from fifth album Dark Magic, which we described as the band “climbing out of the psychedelic-rock shaped box they’ve called home for over 10 years”.

Out now through Dot Dash/Remote Control, Dark Magic will be launched on September 24 at The Northcote Social Club in Melbourne with Lost Animal and Amaya Laucirica. The Sand Pebbles will be touring with Galaxie 500’s Dean Wareham in October. A national tour will be announced soon.

News/mp3: Sand Pebbles set to release new album Dark Magic | download new single ‘Occupied Europe’

Sand Pebbles return with new album Dark Magic, set for release 26 August 2011 via Dot Dash/ Remote Control.

Dark Magic is the Sand Pebbles fifth album and features contributions from Galaxie 500’s Dean Wareham, Luna’s Britta Phillips, Tim Holmes (Death In Vegas), Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, Spiritualized), and Malcom McDowell.

When Wes Holland joined the Sand Pebbles a couple of years ago at the age of 18, Andrew Tanner had just turned 50. The band quickly realised they ran a unique age gamut: a member born in each decade in the history of rock n’ roll - 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Far from disowning this unique fact, they decided to use it to inform their next album.

The result, Dark Magic, speaks from many minds and many times. Hypnotic, cosmic, kinetic and freewheeling.

The first single off the album ‘Occupied Europe [Take Me Across The Water]’ features a lead vocal from Tor Larsen in a high, sweet voice that guitarist Ben Michael X swears sounds like Siouxsie Sioux. He taps into his feminine side to sing a love song from male perspective. Twisted pop!

The Sand Pebbles are singer-guitarist Tor Larsen, guitarist Ben Michael, bassist Christopher Hollow, singer-guitarist Andrew Tanner and drummer Wes Holland.
